Need some encouragement...

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve in July 2014. The first six months were great, and I lost the majority of my weight there. The second six months were a little slower...but I was still happy with my progress. I've lost about 90lbs post op (more than 100lbs from my ultimate highest weight) and am sitting right around 175. I have to admit, I'm very happy with the progress I've made, as I never thought I would actually even get below 200lbs in my lifetime! BUT, my goal is to get to 150, which is at the upper end of a healthy BMI for me. I have also set a goal of 150 before I will allow myself to go in for plastic surgery consult for skin removal surgery. I have been having such a tough time losing any weight lately. Granted, I know I have not been perfect, and I know I can make some changes to help, however, I recently got really focused, started working out, logging all of my food on myfitnesspal, increasing my Fluid intake...and I GAINED 3.6 lbs. I was so upset. I know logically that if I continue this trend, the weight will come off...but I'm frustrated none the less. Have you guys also had this experience? I feel like I've been in a stall for the past 6 months. My body apparently really likes being 175lbs, but I am determined to meet my goal of 150!! Just need some encouragement and to hear from others who went through this and finally made it to where they really wanted to be!!!

Thanks guys!

Jen

One thing that can happen if you've recently started working out (particularly with weights) is there can be some muscle swelling, which can lead to some Fluid retention - the Fluid is actually in the muscle. You burn up muscle sugar (glycogen), and as you replace it, four parts Water get stored along with it. It's temporary, as are all fluid shifts. There's a big difference between fluid gain (which happens to everyone, and fluctuates a lot) and fat gain (which I sincerly doubt is your issue).

The scale can't differentiate between the two. Don't let it mess with your head. Hang in there!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
