A bunch of steps forward and one step back

So things are moving along nicely. I have met with my surgeon and he is awesome!! I do have to travel 3 hours one way to see him but his group is the only one in the state of Idaho that is approved by my insurance and that's ok with me.

I have met with the psych and he gave me a green light

I have my prep classes scheduled for the next couple weeks

Everything has been going fantastically until today. I found out that of the 3.5 years worth of appointments that I have been seeing my PCP he only has notes for 3 visits that we talked about diet and exercise. My insurance needs 6 months. I'm more annoyed at his lack of notes than the added time. I had fully planned on 6 full months of visits because I didn't know that my insurance would allow back dated visits. But after talking to my surgeon he is like oh we can do this by the end of the year! But then we found out that my doc SUCKS at keeping good notes.

Oh well February is sooner than April!

Hi there. I'm also in Idaho. The St Luke's team have been amazing. You will get many after care programs. I'm not sure you have time to participate. A 3 hour drive would wipe me out.

Hang in there. You have the pr-op class coming up. I understand it feels like things are moving slow. Get ready to hang on for the ride...after a year you will look back at how quickly time has passed.

They actually have support groups in Twin Falls so that will be a MUCH shorter drive!! They have been super fantastic to work with.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
