So, weird thing. Before surgery, I loved meat.< /p>

Now, if any meat sounds good, I give it a try and then the next time I think about it, it repulses me.

Since surgery 6 weeks ago, I've tried bits of burger, chicken, even hot dog(I know it's bad) , and now all of them sound completely disgusting to me. am I weird? I can eat turkey burger no problem, but anything else....yuck. Maybe my body just wants me to convert to vegetarian? I don't even know. lol

I am 5 1/2 mths out and still do not want meat. I have to make myself try it. I am still using Protein Shakes since I just can't stomach meat.

After surgery meat is hard on your stomach and has lost its taste. It gets better with time. For poultry, it needs to be made very tender. For example put a chicken breast in a covered pot, add Water and a bouillon cube. Put the pot on low heat for a couple hours until the meat is so tender that it comes apart easily with a fork.

Spices will add a lot of flavoring to meats. Generally I found meats go down much easier when they are in the form of chili or Soups.

I am the same way. I also had this trouble when I was pregnant and my dr thinks it's the excess hormones post surgery.

My Surgeon had "warned" me that eating meat might be a problem after surgery, which is why he Protein in other forms is so important even months after surgery. He explained that not only are dense Proteins hard to digest with regular "plumbing" that after bypass it becomes that much more difficult. Thus, turning people off from wanting to eat meat.

I have had no problems with eating meat (thank goodness) but they do not taste how they did prior to surgery. I have had to get creative with how I cook them (in terms of sauces and seasonings) to make them more palatable.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
