I met with the exercise specialist today and have my pre-op exercise plan. Essentially,

5-10 minutes of stretching daily;

20 minutes of strength training 3 days a week;

30 minutes of aerobic heart-rate range activity 3-5 days a week;

30 minutes of "activities of daily living" (walking dog, etc.) daily

I have a daily log sheet that must be turned in 3 weeks from now. The appointment included a detailed body fat analysis with an INBODY 520 machine, going over the heart rate calculations, examples of various types of activities, etc., and resources. Tonight is my Water aerobics class which will complete 3 of the four requirements :-)

I am interested in hearing about other's pre-op exercise plans!!!

I did aquafit classes for 2 years prior to WLS. I swear the core strengthening work made all the difference in the world in my recovery. I had very minimal pain post op. Walked in recovery, could get in and out the bed unassisted and did not need any pain meds. post op.

I was reading your post and I thought to myself....wow this sounds familiar! Then I saw we have the same surgeon! I am scheduled for my RNY next Monday, and I couldn't be more excited! The doctor, nurses, nutritionists have all been so wonderful! When I went to the exercise specialist, she gave me the motivation I needed to really start exercising. I had been losing weight on my own, but had sort of stalled. The same day I met with her, I joined a gym and the weight loss kicked back in. Now I am doing the 2 week pre-op diet, and lost 11 pounds in the first week! We should keep in touch so we can share our experiences with eachother! Good luck!

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

      Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

        As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
