4 Weeks out of Surgery- need advice

Recommended Posts

Please I need advice.....

I am about 4 weeks out. I do not see a big weight difference i have lost only including the Fluid gained in hospital 24 lbs, if i drink 80 oz a day and do 60 grams Protein I seem to gain weight. is this normal. I feel my eyeballs are floating. it is so hard to drink so much a day including my Protein drinks and eat 1 been or 1 vegetable a day per say my nutritionist.

If I eat it is 2-3 spoon full of either a bean (for fiber/Protein) mixed California mix for a vegetable or some Greek yogurt. this id what my nutritionist has me doing.

my calories are still under 500 a day.

If i drink the 80 oz of fluid 2-12 oz Protein Drinks I literally feel like i am going to explode by nightfall.

i start drinking at 8 am and stop between 10-11 at night

Any suggestions I am at a loss here. I may lose now 2 lbs a week. I am walking anywhere from 2-4 miles a day and keeping myself busy.

I am 5'2 and at 214.....what is the minimum to drink that i do not feel miserable.

I believe most programs recommend getting 64 oz of Fluid in each day, so I would think you can safely cut back on how much you're drinking if it's making you uncomfortable.

As for the weight loss, I'm sorry to say I don't have an answer. Hopefully a more senior member can chime in?

Hang in there!

Around this time frame for me I had a week of gaining/losing half pound/one pound. I find when I eat Beans, like I did yesterday I gained .4 pounds. it is all relative though as this weight will come back off. I still really focus on getting Protein in and not so worried right now about veggies; time will come when I will be able to consume both. I drink about 64 ounces each day to. Make sure your protein is at least 60 ounces a day.

Hi there,

First of all you are actually doing fantastic! Losing 24lbs in a month is incredible so honestly you on completely on track!

The recommended amount of fluids in a day is between 48 and 64 ounces. You could safely back down a bit. I cannot imagine drinking so much that late at night, I would be in the bathroom all night. LOL!

It sounds like your nut is similiar to mine. They are looking for good balance in what you eat and those veggies are good for you. My nut has me using a method of eating to make sure I remain balanced. 1 bite of good carbs for every 2 bites of quality Protein. Good carbs being vegetables and fruit when you are released to do so.

Please don't worry about how fast the weight comes off, it didn't get there overnight and realistically it won't come off overnight either. Down the road as you get closer to your goal, it will slow down to a crawl.

Slow and steady really does win the race and you need good nutrition and good eating habits when you get to the other side.

Hang in there, you are doing fantastic!

Thanks everyone, like I said I feel over whelmed with fluids. I thought it was to much.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
