So I've read through the booklet I got from my surgeon's office and I feel like they're program advances faster than what I've read on here. It says I can go back to regular food 4-6 weeks out. I know every doctor is different but it just seems kind of fast.

I was back on regular food at 6 weeks. No pre-op diet, no Clear liquids phase. Just 2 weeks All liquids, 2 weeks Purees, 2 weeks Soft Foods and then whatever I could tolerate.

I was cleared for everything (except fried foods and alcohol) at 6 weeks out.

Week 1--clear liquids

Week 2--full liquids

Week 3--soft foods (didn't have to be pureed)

Week 4--started introducing more foods; was allowed to have caffeine

Week 5--same as week 4

Week 6--allowed to start introducing raw veggies, salad, nuts, seeds

Every doctor follows a different plan. I had one of the REALLY REALLY slow progressing ones:

2 weeks Clears

2 weeks Full Liquids

2 Weeks pureeds

2 weeks soft

All Clear to eat what I want after those 8 weeks.

I will say that when I did advance to full diet there isn't much that bothers me at all. I can eat chicken, steak, pork chops, Pasta, bread, raw veggies, etc...

I stay very close to the healthy stuff an high Protein but I did try some Pasta and bread. It went down and sat fine but knowing myself I need to stay away from it since it's a gateway food for me.

Keep with what your surgeon says. They are the experts in your care not anyone on here.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
