Struggling with boredom eating

Recommended Posts

I am still in the pre-op phase of dieting. I am doing what my nutritionist recommended and can't have any weight gain prior to insurance approval.

I am really struggling with eating of boredom or "mindless" eating. I have a desk job and used to just snack during the day while at work. I'm stuck at my desk and it's a real struggle to not think about food. I feel hungry, but think it's just mind hunger, if that makes sense.

Anyone have any tips on how to get past this?

Can you take a walk? If so, get up and take a short walk. Go to the bathroom. Fill your Water bottle.

Try to drink Water when you feel like eating.

Is there a task you can do?

Clean out a drawer or file?

Delete some email?

Make a list?

Make a schedule?

Do some stretching and/or desk calisthenics?

Return phone calls?

It depends on your work environment how creative you can get.

You have to find something else do to. A small task or even something simple like putting a rubber band on your wrist and snapping it when you get the urge to snack. Keep a water bottle nearby and sip.

Good ideas. I really like the rubber band snapping lol

I need to clean out emails big time, so looks like that and rubber band will be my go to tomorrow. Today my calorie intake has dropped significantly compared to before and I have a massive headache ????

I knit. Gives my hands something repetitive to do.

Surfer Girl nailed it.....keep that Water bottle filled and sip hard.

You'll be staying hydrated and maybe helping weight loss, too.

That's exactly one of the tactics I've been using during this timeframe. What I've found is that when I"m up on that bathroom break, I'll stay mobile and walk around the work area more, too.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
