Hi Guys,

My first post on the forums, so please let me know if I'm posting in the wrong place!

I'm tentitively booked for Lap Band surgery on Nov 4 with Smartshape in Vancouver, Canada.

I've done a lot of research myself, but have found the company to be somewhat pushy for the sale and less eager to supply information about the process, what they provide etc. I know they provide 5 years post op covrage, but so have have had no luck in getting them to provide to me in writing exactly what this entails, under what circumstances and stipulations etc.

I' be really grateful to hear about other experiences with SmartShape, particularly their aftercare support and services and if anyone has ever had any issues with them.

I'd also love to hear from anyone else in the Vancouver area who has had the surgery!

My only other reservation is that alot of people seem to get the band revised to a sleeve. The band has been "sold" to me as something you can have for the rest of your life, so if you've had a band for many years, I'd lovee to hear your experiences too.

Thank you all for your help!

Hi @@skinnypants

Thanks for your comment. How have you found the aftercare at False Creek? Have you had a successful "journey"? I'm guessing that your relocation is no additional cost as you're within 5 years?

Thanks and good luck with your surgery!

Never had any trouble getting in to see them. If there was a problem, I would be able to get my call returned within a day and had a fill or defill within a week. First couple of years will the band is no problem. You will loose your desired weight you want. Be consistant . Hope this helps.

Have been successful so far. Lost 115 lbs but put 20 lbs back on. Present weight 180lbs. Hopefully after repositioning will be at my goal weight of 150 lbs. Fingers crossed.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
