Frustration/Failure

Recommended Posts

This month will be 2 years I have been banded. I am in a constant struggle with my thyroid. For the past year I have just STOPPED LOSING. I am not gaining but I can't lose a pound. My doctor is frustrated... my endocrinologist has been trying everything. I am exercising. Only taking in about 1000 calories at the most. That's all I can eat and I burn on average 2100-2200 calories a day. I am frustrated...feel like a failure and am now depressed. I am at a loss for what my choices are.

In the two years how much have you lost? Maybe you have hit your number and that's why you stopped.

54 pounds. :( I still have 54 more. I have not hit a happy number yet.

Why do YOU feel like a failure, when it's your thyroid that's causing the problem ? If you're doing everything right, and your Dr, s are helping too, why does that make you a failure ? I understand that you're frustrated , but blaming yourself for something you have no control over seems pointless ! Instead, congratulate yourself on what you HAVE lost, not what you HAVEN'T lost. Your hard work and accomplishments are far greater than a number on the scale, so congratulations ! And be proud of yourself !!!

Thanks @pinkdahlia. I just was so motivated and doing the right thing and now with the same motivation and habits there is no result. It is just frustrating. It messes with your mind a bit.

I understand but I think you have did a wonderful job your just hard on yourself. If another person told you they lost 54 pounds that would be really good it's just harder when it's yourself. Keep up the good work you are doing your best.????

My insurance doesn't cover them but my Flexible Spending does with a prescription.

Do you have hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism? What medication are you on? What symptoms are you experiencing from your thyroid? I have researched the thyroid extensively because I am hypothyroid. I am sure I can help you. I am not a doctor, but took matters into my own hands and found a doctor that would work with me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
