2 days Post Op: Water even makes me nauseous

Recommended Posts

Try not to worry and just sip, sip, sip. I was exactly like this and was told by my surgeon I couldn't go home until I drank 400ml, which made me think I would never go home! I persevered by trying lots of different drinks (green tea, chicken broth, diluted fruit juice, squash etc) and it quickly improved.

Just keep sipping!

Make sure you are taking small, tiny sips. You may want to try different temperatures. Immediately post op I could handle ice chips and Popsicles, but I preferred my Water at room temperature.

I am sipping, but my pain and nausea medications are in pill form and when I try to take them and swallow with Water they come right back up. In so much pain right now.

Sleeved 8/17/15 I had the same thing. Room temp. Water worked best small sips try to add a splash of liquid crystal light grape. For some reason only the grape flavor I could tolerate. It does get better!!! Try not to stress about it. Get a pill crusher add it to a little water and take your pill that way. Good luck

I had liquid pain meds and dissolvable nausea meds. I couldn't drink regular Water for the few week.. it just tasted nasty to me. Unsweet tea was wonderful.

Ask your doc for the Lortab liquid pain meds and the Zofran (it melts in your mouth) for nausea. My nausea was so bad and I didn't drink and ended up in the hospital for 3 days right after I returned home from surgery. It sucks, but sip. You can download an app that reminds you every (however long you decide) to sip. I set mine for 7 minutes. I hated that stupid app but after I started using it I didn't have to go back to the hospital and I only needed it for a week or so before I started drinking normally again.

Also, try different temps for liquids and different flavors. I need hot liquids at first, I even heated up my Water. Now it has to be icy cold. I bough some grape crystal lite and found that it was disgusting (even though I loved it before surgery) I ended up getting some blue Powerade and some apple juice and diluted it half and half with Water and then heated it up. Sounds gross but it worked like a charm.

Try a few different things to see what works for you.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
