Help/ right side pain

Recommended Posts

I had surgery 6 days ago and have an annoying sharp pain on my right side. It hurts when I sit, stand breath... I have to be moving constantly to relieve pain but my body is tired from lack of sleep since the surgery. I struggle because no position is comfortable for me at bed time. Anyone experience this?

I don't know if you are having the same issue that I did. I had a back side pain too about 4-5 days in. I panicked and thought it was kidney stones. But, after talking with my doctor and getting up and moving around more I realized it was from laying down so much. Also, we tend to bend weird and not move as much because your stomach is sore now. Try moving around more or propping yourself up more instead of laying down in the same position and it should go away. Good luck!

Ice, Ice, Ice!! I was having weird left sided pain and my surgeon said to ice it for 20 mins then rest for 20 mins - repeat. It worked wonders the next day the pain was completely gone.

They move a lot of things around in there when they do surgery and sometimes the scope they use can bruise things. Try the ice, you will be amazed at how better it feels.

I had left side pain but it was pretty bad starting day 5. After another 5 days it went away!

However I would check in with your surgeon

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
