New Sleever / feeling overwhelm

Recommended Posts

Hello All, glad I found this app. Today is my 3rd day since surgery and truth is I'm a bit miserable. I have heart burn, I feel light heade, my incisions feel tender and I do feel sorta alone. Although the family is supportive it's not the same when they haven't experienced what I'm going through. I know things will get better but i have some time before I feel some what normal.

Welcome. Are you on anything for the heart burn? If not ask your doctor to prescribe a PPI and take it faithfully! Other than that, it's early days. Give your body some time to heal.

Yep, things get normal, but can you share a little bit more about your situation so people who have have been there can share?

My situation: well I had the lap band removed in December 2014 due to slippage. I wasn't going to do the sleeve but became really concerned when I gained over 30 pounds in a matter of few months. After some talk with my surgeon I decided that the VGS was a good option for me. I had the surgery on Friday. What I'm currently experiencing is some what isolation on top of the discomfort I mentioned in my initial post. Plus I'm feeling (physically) very hungry and that was confusing because I thought my appetite would go away. Hope that gives a better picture of my situation.

D-rod I'm with you..surgery was 9/25/15. I am miserable but so encouraged by all these posts saying it was the best thing they ever did. Hang in there!

Welcome. Yes, the first week is the worst, but each day should find you getting a bit better. I remember a few bouts of light headedness, but they soon disappeared. I was also on a PPI to help with heartburn, and never experienced any, so check with your doctor about prescribing one. Get your fluids in above all else. Hope you feel better soon!

The PPI is very important because sometime the acid build up also feels like hunger pains. I wouldn't wait. Why be miserable when you don't have to? I'd call the doctor first thing in the morning and let him call in a script to your pharmacy. It will be a lot easier to focus on your fluids and Proteins if your aren't uncomfortable.

Today is my 4th day and I'm not feeling any symptoms described above; sorry you are having such s difficult time. I'm actually doing great just can't get my heart rate down that why I'm still in the hospital but hopefully today once I talk with the cardiologist he has a plan together since we already know it isn't a blood clot so I can go home.

Very happy for you. I pray you continue to succeed with your sleeve and that your heart rate regulates!

So I also had my surgery 9/25 and I was wondering if anyone else was having bad diarrhea?

That hasn't been my experience. I haven't had any bowel movements since surgery. About to call my doctor. Not sure if that is normal. Hope you find some relief soon!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
