Lapband and bad back

Recommended Posts

Anyone out there have the band and has had surgery on lower back and can't exercise. I have lost 45 pounds since my band surgery in April 15. But I can't exercise because of my back issues. I am trying hard but have stalled on weight loss. All I eat is tuna and other fish. And green veggies. I drink Water diet green tea and crystal light. I have cheated a little. Maybe that's it Idk. Any suggestions. I really need someone to help me

How about exercizing in Water? Or sitting in a chair and lifting small weights? Or bicycling (even a stationary bike)?

I'd consult a physiotherapist and get some recommendations. Surely you had someone who oversaw your rehab after surgery.

I've had surgeries on my back and had degenerative disc disease and spinal stenosis. That's why I'm getting the sleeve. I have nerve damage and have weakness and numbness in my left leg so I can't do much.

I used to do Water aerobics with the little old ladies at my old gym but that gym got so expensive I couldn't afford it.

I do hydro physical therapy sometimes.

Right now I'm focusing on doing my stretches on my exercise ball everyday and walking around my apartment complex. At my gym now I do the recumbent bike and elliptical sometimes.

As Shel says, Water water water. If the gym is too expensive, try the Y. I belong and it's alot less than the gyms in the area. I know I can't and don't have the right to tell you how to spend your money but this is immensly important for you. I have joint disease and even with new hips, the treadmill and bicycle are not the best option. Water however, helped me more than any physical therapy ever did.

Take a look at my stats. I did that swimming laps and doing water aerobics.

Ok I am going to try the local civic center. Idk how much they cost but it's worth a shot even a couple days a week it's 20 miles one way from my house

Good for you! Some of the women in my class have an hour's commute after class yet they show up regularly. I'm just around the corner so I have no reason not to get myself in gear and head over there.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
