See how u feel. Everyone is different. Personally I had breath taking pain for 2 weeks. Hurt very badly. Not to mention the fatigue too. Hopefully you won't have that but if u do, you won't be able to work. Good luck

Yes, agreed, we really are all different and should do what is best as we see fit.

To be honest with you, I use to be a workaholic, overtime, I was there, weekends I was there. I even remembered having surgery and leaving a week later on assignment to Ethiopia but the truth is never again!

I feel that I have neglected and over worked and pushed this body too much and hence the reason for some of my health problems.

It's time to slow down and love me a little bit more. When my grandmother use to tell me to slow down because " it's not the same day the leave hits the Water bottom that it starts to rot" I thought she was over reacting but she was right, the effects of much of what we do to our bodies are not felt right away but later we pay the price.

It's difficult but I am learning to take it easy. I am trying to treat myself better than I did before.

In my line of work, we, as humanitarian workers give so much , physically , emotionally and psychologically. I need balance .

I don't have a family of my own, though I do adopt a child in every country I have worked. Not officially but financially and otherwise.

As my colleague once told me "D, you need to save a little of you for yourself and your unborn children"

To think I haven't even slowed down long enough to find me a man.

Learning to take it easy at 35 years old.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
