So, I don't own a scale. Haven't in a long time. I got tired of my scale being about 4 pounds off of every other scale I would weigh on. It occurred to me that I might want to get one now so I can follow my progress at home and not just at the doctor visits. Can anyone recommend a quality scale?

Get a Withings. It will download your weight to an app. I use Fitbit app. So you can fiollow your progress automatically. It costs $145 so is not cheap. I don't think it matters too much the difference between scales. More important is what happened over the past month or so on the scale you are using. Using the same scale will reveal the trend. It was definitely worth it for me. I also use the app RevUp and so a fitness person also follows this. The withings also determines your fat percentage so a trend will be much slower than just weight.

I was also going to recommend the Withings scale. It takes your weight, body fat percentage, air quality, etc.. Plus they have a pedometer called the "Pulse" you clip to your body if you want to get one later. It's $100 but it tells you the number of steps, the elevation, walking and running patterns, your sleep patterns, and your heart rate. Both the scale and the pulse upload the data to a website that keeps track of your progress and integrates with other popular websites like Runtastic.

Check them out for yourself....

I have the Aria scale by Fitbit. The Withings looks really good to though.

I researched doctor's scales. The one I decided on was a Seca- it is a super high quality, German made scale know for its accuracy. They run about $400-$700 depending on the model. I looked on craigslist and found someone selling the $700 one in brand new condition for $70. I am SOOOO happy with it. It always reads the exact same as my doctors office scale.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
