It will take up space you need for food. I wait 15 mins. It's been okay for me. ❤️

According to my NUT this only applies to bypass. For me, I can drink right up until the time I eat. I try to eat pretty slowly anyway so even if I take a sip or two while eating it doesn't interfere with my being able to have room for my food.

Can some explain to me why is it wrong to drink Water during eating? Y do I have to wait 30 minutes?

Didn't your doc explain this to you? It's one of the main things that bariatric patients should know

I'm not a nutritionist, but it seems a bit off base to say this doesn't apply to the sleeve, when nearly every other nutritionist and surgeon other than yours says that it does.

It's not about whether you can do it, and not have problems, but about whether you SHOULD do it. I also don't think it's necessarily about having room for your food. I think the video that was posted is right on. Water flushes food out of your stomach faster, so you get hungry again sooner. That's why lots of surgeons say it's ok to drink right up until you eat, but not after.

Disclaimer: I'm a newbie, only one week post-op.

The difference is that with the sleeve we still have our pyloric valve. Fluid doesn't wash food out of our stomach like with the pouch. With the sleeve, the functioning of the stomach doesn't change as it does with bypass.

If you are instructed not to drink then by all means don't do it. I was told by my team that these rules don't apply.

That makes sense, but even still, when the valve opens, well chewed/puréed food that is more watered down would pass through more quickly/easily. So I'll concede that the impact would be less significant with the sleeve, though more so in the early weeks ;)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
