Surgery scheduled for Aug 2nd at TLBC

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am having my surgery on August 2nd at TLBC with Dr. Yau. I am concerned about a few things I have read on this site, and am wondering if anyone could tell me about their experience with this doctor/clinic. I was not overly impressed with the call from the nurse, but am hoping the rest of the experience will be more positive! I am also scared to death that I will be unable to keep to the pre-op diet, since I don't eat cottage cheese and they only option the nurse gave me was yogurt. I love yogurt, but nothing but yogurt for 14 days...........if I could do that, wouldn't I already be thin?!?

Looking for hope....hoping I am doing the right thing....please advise!!!!

Thanks!:help:

Kero. I am not familiar with where you are having your surgery. I live in Arkansas. I don't know exactly what your pre-op diet is either. I will share my experience with you. Many doctors have different pre and post op rules. Don't understand that. I have been banded for 4 months. I hace a 10cc Inamed Band. I had to do a liquid diet, basically. After the fourth day I could sub a garden salad (veggies only grown from the earth), for one of my Protein Drinks a day. Like Slim Fast Optima. 3 to 4 of those a day for two weeks. Point of that type of diet was to help shrink your liver. Makes for a safer surgery. I was so ready to do something about my weight, which I have battled for years. Also having terriffic knee problems, blood pressure, and back problems. of which all are better already. The post op was about the same diet, just different variety of liquids. Not so bad. The pre op was definitely hard for me. If you want this, and need this badly enough, you have to commit to something. I weighed the day I started and I looked at that scale and said I will never see this number again. It is a good feeling. It was the first day to a life that was going to be healthier and happier. I can already tell the difference. You will too, if you decide this is for you. After the first two weeks it gets easier by the day. Small price to pay for what you eventually get. I am glad so far that I did what I did. I had great doctors and a great support system through this web site. Visit your surgeons and their staff now, before surgery. It is important that you feel confident and secure with them, also for your after care. Hope this helps you.

Hi Kero,

I am being banded at The Sugrical weight Loss Clinic on August 7th by Dr. Cobourn.

Over there, they put everyone on the Optifast Diet for 2 or more weeks according to how much you must lose. We are not allowed anything else but the opti, black coffee or tea, and two cups of low glycemic veggies per day.

I have to stay on the diet for 3 weeks prior to my surgery.

I know this does not help with your situation...but just another Canadian response for you.

Thanks! That diet sounds more tolerable than mine, so I am going to see if the nutritionist can give me any other options. How is it working for you? Are you nervous, or excited, or both?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
