Curse you, Diet Coke!

Recommended Posts

I'm eight weeks out. My doctor's plan allows carbonated beverages after one month, but I managed to quit diet cokes during pre-op. I usually only had one, two max, per day when I was drinking them. I had a few sips of my daughter's diet coke last week. And I've continued to have a few sips ever since. Sadly, it still tastes good to me and does not bother my sleeve at all. Sigh. I wish it did. I know I should not pick up this habit again. Talk me down from the ledge. (Or tell me I can have it. I'll take that, too. ;-) )

I was told no carbonated drinks and no caffeine again. It's crazy how everyone's doctor is different!

I like a Diet Coke on a rare occasion too.

I'll find out during my upcoming consult!

I'm almost 7 weeks out. My dr said I can have alcohol. Went out Saturday to a club and ordered Malibu rum and cranberry. Drank it over 2 hours with Water. I was fine. I'm down 33 lbs and 30 more to go. Every dr is different. I am 52. Was told over and over didn't need Calcium and had bloodwork done and my calcium was too high! Gave up soda a long time ago. Sometimes miss carbonation.

coffee ok too but I don't drink it.

i can have caffeine and he discourages carbonation but knows in the world sometimes you have to make your own choice, and diet dr pepper is my kryptonite.

i have had a few sips and i have to say it hurt so bad and i burped so much i dont want anymore....i also got them out of my life before surgery...

now if he tried to take my coffee away....there might be trouble...

I was told not to drink my carbs so stay away from any coke/pepsi products & I have. Since then, I lost 10lbs. I drink Water & flavored water with no sugar.

Sorry, but I would stay away from there, but up to you..

GOOD LUCK!

For me ... the 2 week pre-op diet / change was hard ... I was a 2 per day grape NOS girl ... and diet Mtn Dew ... I was on caffeine overload ... sometimes even have a 5 HR Energy too!

BUT ... when I hit the 2 week pre-op ... I quit all of it cold turkey ... I did have terrible headaches for a few days and wanted to kill everyone I came in contact with ... but I got through ...

Now after is another story ... I feel so much better for having had to quit the bad stuff ... that I know what it does to me ... so I don't want it anymore ... which is a good thing ... Hubby can even have Diet Mtn Dew in the fridge and I don't want it .... doesn't even smell good anymore ...

I would think that an occasional sip here and there of whatever your vice is wouldn't hurt too bad ... but limit your indulgences ... remember ... that is part of how we got here in the first place ...

and yes, being on here has taught me that every doctor is different ... each one of us is different too ... so success is tailored to each individual person ... not the group as a whole ...

because after all ... what works for you ... may not work for me ...

I wish us all continued success !!!

Diet coke is basically poison. If you research it, you will not want to drink it anymore.

If you have drink soda, get a stevia sweetened high quality soda.

Long term soda is going to hurt your efforts more than help them.

I don't like the taste of diet soda anymore. Used to love it but not anymore.

I drink 1-2 cups of coffee per day. My surgeon has no issue with moderate caffeine. Coke is another issue. I used to LOVE coke zero, but carbonated beverages are not allowed. It's been 4 months now and I honestly don't miss it much. I'm fine with Water or unsweetened iced tea. I did take a sip of my kid's coke concoction at the movies not too long ago. It was just one sip, but it didn't feel very good. I've not had any desire to have another sip since.

I have been drinking diet soda for 42 years since I was 10. And that was back in the days of Tab and Fresca only.

I don't have anywhere near the amount I used to - I drink maybe a 1/4 of a 12 oz bottle a day. I don't drink coffee so that's my daily dose of caffeine. I used to drink 6-8 cans of diet Coke a day.

I was an occasional caffeine free diet coke girl. it tasted different than regular diet coke. I haven't had a carbonated drink since March - life marched on. I was told I am allowed coffee. I cannot give it up. I tried the de-caffeinated but I have gone back to reg coffee. I feel like if THAT ifs my ONLY downfall, I am not doing too bad. I have had an occasional tiny glass of wine recently. I won't drink more than a couple of sips, but it was nice to have a small glass :D

I GAVE UP popcorn so FAR so.......and that's my KRYPTONITE!

I am having a better day today....

I was told that the only thing that I had to give up FOREVER was carbonation since it stretches your stomach naturally with the bubbles. I was an avid diet coke drinker (not every day, but atleast a couple times a week) and coffee drinker daily. I thought I would just die without caffeine. I am happy to say its not as hard as I thought. I have not had any carbonation and I also chose to give up coffee (I don't want to drink my calories). Not one drop of either since surgery date a little over 4 months ago.

I say cut out the sodas if you can. I know its hard, but feel as though the long term affects are worth it!

My Dr says absolutely no carbonated drinks.< /p>

So I quite all soda a week before surgery, I had a headache for a full month.

I can now have caffeine for my first beverage in the morning. But after that's it's Decaf for me.

I have gotten used to it. Once in a while I get a sugar fee chai from Starbucks when meeting a friend, and I don't worry about the caffeine, but it's a rare treat.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I will stick to just having a few sips.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
