First day eating soft foods

Recommended Posts

Hi All! Today it's day 14 post op and I had my first soft foods. For Breakfast I had cottage cheese, lunch a Protein Shake and for dinner I had mashed chili flavored black Beans. I was so afraid of over eating! I had about 3 tablespoons of the mashed beans and I did not feel very full but satisfied. How is everybody handling their first try of soft foods? Should I be measuring my portions?

not a bad idea to measure it out. you don't want to over eat! I have taken one too many bites and felt uncomfortable. I have never thrown up but it sure was uncomfortable. better a lol less than one too many!

I will be starting this next week. I have concerns about it as well. I have sample diet that was given to me. But am open to more suggestions. Thank you.

It's weird, but I'm on puree, and that includes cottage cheese and mashed beans/refried Beans according to my Nut. My stages were 2 days Clear liquids, 7 days liquids, 2 weeks puree, and next week I start 2 weeks of soft. I've been confused about what "soft" means. I know I can add eggs, and maybe some fruit (although I've already had some fruit in smoothies.) I'm curious what else soft food includes….

I'm 4 weeks out today and just started soft foods. I'm so happy to be eating real food! Tonight I got a burrito bowl (no rice) from Chipotle and it was amazing. Before anyone goes thinking I'm nutso for getting Chipotle, I'll get 4 meals out of it and each serving is 125 calories, 6g of fat, 6g of carbs, and 12g of Protein.

I've been pinning recipes on Pinterest for months. I'm so excited to be eating meat again!

My nutritionist wants me eating 2 ounces at each meal so I do measure it out. It always seems to be the perfect amount of food for my sleeve, although the last two days, I've felt a lot of restriction and haven't been eating as much.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
