So I had my surgery in March and left for summer break at the end of May (I'm a teacher). I've lost almost 50 pounds but only 10 of those 50 pounds in the last three months. However, when I came back to school two weeks ago, everyone started noticing the weight loss. How can 10 pounds tip the "Are you losing weight?" comments?

Almost exact same scenario here! I think everyone still had the mental image imprint of the larger size, with the break from seeing each other it takes them aback that suddenly you look much smaller than they remember.

Also, I think the closer and closer you get to goal the more difference the loss makes. Just yesterday my mother said "Good Grief Lee, how much more have you lost since last time you were here?" And yep, it has only been 10 lbs. I swear this last 10-15 lbs has made more difference than the first 30 lost... which is a good thing : )

I didn't start getting comments about my weight loss until I had lost 50 pounds - actually on the day I got to 50, I had two comments. Nothing prior to that, though. Weird.

I really didn't buy any clothes in the beginning because I knew I was going to lose - my clothes were baggy, it was winter and I was layered...maybe that was it. Who knows.

Congrats to you, though! Keep up the good work!

It's the inches. While you were losing the weight, the inches had not "shifted" yet. I lost 11 pounds last month with a loss of 3 inches in my bust, 1 in my arms and 2 in my hips. All in one month!

So, like I said, it's not the pounds, it's the inches.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
