2 days post-op w/calf soreness and heavy neck

Recommended Posts

I just had my surgery on 7/2 and am sore at the port site which I did expect due to the type of surgery. I almost don't want to stand up straight to stretch it because it hurts more like that.

But my calves are very sore and achy and hurt. It feels like I ran too way to hard and too much but I have not done any running since the surgery. Did anyone else have sore calves? It gets better after walking a bit but if I sit for a while or after waking up I have to walk very slowly due to the pain...they feel soooo tight.

Also my neck and shoulder area are very sore also like I did extremely heavy lifting (but of course I have not). My neck feels so heavy when I am lifting it after having it relaxed laying back.

I was not expecting these pains after surgery and just wondering if they are normal or I am just a weirdo?

Sandra,

You may want to give your Doc a call just to update him on the calf pain. Being a fresh postop, we're not as active, and run the risk of blood clot formation. The calves are a favorite spot for those to form in. Good Luck to you,

Peggy

Sandra,

Congratulations on your surgery!

Peggy is right. Calf pain after surgery is most times due to a blood clot. Call your doctor immediately about this. Also, if you start to notice shortness of breath at any time, you will need to go to the emergency room.

Good luck to you and I hope all turns out well

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
