So I am 4 days until 30 day post op. For the last 3 days I've been feeling depressed, feeling hungry and craving. It doesn't help that everywhere I go I'm surrounded by food. I make sure if I go somewhere I plan my meals, Water, and Protein but I can't shake this feeling. Anyone else going through it?

I think the first month is toughest because you just want to eat something your not suppose to. I do know about this I stepped up my exercise game. It's the whole endorphins bit. It made me feel better and get through those last couple of weeks to eating regular. If you go to gatherings I eat before I go. I try to stay away from the main eating areas and sip my Water. If it's something I can eat I make a plate and nibble until I'm full. I kind of just move the food around my plate do it looks like I ate. You have come so far, focus on the goal. You can do it!!

You know what, I haven't been exercising as much. Maybe that is the answer. I had plans to check out a gym tomorrow. I think I'll follow through with that and hope to get over this hurdle. Thanks for your warm words!

Yes, that first six weeks is the hardest. Head hunger is just not nice and you have to learn to go do other things.

In my personal experience I would think about all the stuff I shouldn't be and when the time came that I could eat regular food, I was very careful to avoid trigger foods. Well, during a week long art cruise that was given to me and my husband, we were in New York and attended a required dinner.

Well it was at Carmine's which is known for their incredible Italian food.

Pasta is a trigger food for me and there wasn't anything else to eat so I tried a bite of Pasta. Guess what! I didn't even like it! Have not had to touch it since. I no longer think about it. Same thing with most sugary foods.

Now I crave cheese, good Proteins, nuts, seeds, fresh vegetables.

It will get better! I promise.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
