I ate a burger 3 days before my surgery-why?

Recommended Posts

I ate a burger 3 days before my surgery. I'm supposed to be on the Preop liquid diet and so far so good but today I just caved and had a burger. What do I do? I'm so devastated. Having some kind of mental breakdown.

will this mess up my surgery on Monday? I am calling the office but no one is picking up arghhh

Yes just get right back on the liquids and from this point forward do not waiver. The reason you got the burger is because its hard to be on this liquid diet. Really hard. But it is a taste of what is to come once you get sleeved. So fogedaboutit, but really do try to stick to the diet for the next three days so that your stomach is in good shape for surgery.

Some surgeons only do a 2-3 pre-op diet so for safety sake you should be ok. But also keep in mind if you eat something 24-48 hours beforehand your surgeon will see it on your liver (or possibly in your stomach). So just get right back on track and move forward with your new life:-)

Hi! Thank you so much! This made me smile I feel better. The doctors nurse came back to me she told me it's ok. Breathe and this is it. No more after this and I'm like yes I'm sorry I had a moment of weakness. So it's still ok I just need to be on Clear Liquids so broth and stuff. Phew

Just breath, it will be fine. Had the same angst before I left. Then I read posts like "You Know When You Lost Weight When" and got refocused on the goal. You are giving yourself and the people you touch the gift of health, it is important.

Okay so let me play devil's advocate here, not the popular opinion I know. I would say of course you are human and it happens. We have all made mistakes but let me give you something to ponder. Why did you choose a burger? Think about why it wasn't a healthier choice. Just food for thought pun intended.

Move on it isn't the end of the world but for your success later, see if you can put your finger on why you chose to eat what you did. It may help when times get tough or when the head hunger gets loud.

Best of luck to you and wishing you a great, smooth surgery!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
