Hi,

I was banded 02/16/07. I have lost a minimal amount of weight since my surgery. I am getting discouraged. I had a fill, then the fill was taken out.

I found myself choking when I would eat. I know we are not suppose to drink when eating, but I could not eat without drinking.

Has anyone out there experienced this?

Thaks.

Ninajo,

No, I have not had this problem....are you taking really small bites, and chewing really well? If so, I would call my doctor and tell them what is going on....sorry to hear you are having these problems

Hi Ninajo. I've read on threads about this kind of thing happening. I have the opposite, I've had several fills and can still eat almost anything. However, I did get swollen shut for a day after one fill and it scared the daylights out of me. I woke up choking on my own saliva.

If you post this in the "Complications" area, I'm sure you'll get more responses, maybe from bandsters who've had the same problems.

All the best.

You said they took the "fill" out...was this because of your choking problem? If so what instructions did your Dr. give?

Hey there,

It was hard for me not to drink while eating, but it's something you really, REALLY need to train yourself to do. It's important to eat food as a means for nutrition. Meals are no longer fun, leisurely affairs. I had to really work hard to change my mentality about that. It's tough, but you'll get there.

I agree with mermaid. u definitely have to wait those 30 minutes and chew very slowly. i mean chewing about 45-50 times before swallowing.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
