So I'm a 23 yo male that's 5'9" and weight 328.6 lbs. I've been going thru the processes with my insurance for about 3 months and I've found it to very helpful and informative.

While I'm excited about the process of becoming a new and lighter me, I'm a little afraid of what comes with that. For one I'm afraid of the actual surgery. I've never had a broken bone or anything as a child so I've never had to have a surgery of any kind

And second I'm afraid of the loose skin that comes with the weight loss ... My initial thoughts is to run the gym after healing and strength train to build muscle to prevent as much skin as possible.

If someone post up can share experience it would be much appreciated.

Everything you are concerned about is completely normal. Even those of us that have had surgery previously get nervous about surgery. The surgery is one day and recovery is fast. But the benefits of surgery are much longer so don't let one day worry you too much.

About the loose skin, not much you can do about that. It's mostly genetics. You are young so your skin might bounce back. But I would rather have loose skin than skin full of fat. Though running to the gym is not a bad idea. It'll help with the weight loss and you'll have so much more energy to work out once the weight starts coming off.

You're right Lexie... Another thing that has bothered me thru the whole process is that there is very little information for young adults going thru the surgery especially for men... I am glad I found this group tho

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
