Hi everyone,

I started this journey several years ago, however as I was only a teenager at the time I made the decision that I was not ready. Now, at 23, having struggled with my weight all my life I'm definitely ready to start my new life. I'm 172cm or 5 feet 8 inches tall, and 124kg or 273lb, which actually puts me on the lower side with a BMI of 41.6 (never thought I'd say that!).

My surgery has been scheduled for the 5th of August with Dr Charles Mosse, and I would love to have some friends to share the journey with. Does anyone have their surgery booked around this time?

Hi! My surgery is scheduled for August 3rd so we'll be on the journey at about the same time. ????

Hi. I'm right in between the two of you, on August 4th. A little scared….

@@Thinside welcome! I think it's normal to be a little scared, just as long as it doesn't stop you from reaching your goals.

PM me if you'd like to talk about anything, or to join an August Sleevers Facebook group.

@@PureDarkness, thanks! I've spend over two years researching and thinking about this decision, and I'm sure it's the right one, but as it approaches I'm feeling some nerves. Will I wake up from the operation? Will I miss eating out with friends? Will I be too tired for work? Will I hate the sagging skin as much as I do the weight? All those questions that go through your head in the middle of the night.

@@Thinside I think that those are all really normal things to worry about, at least they are for me. That said, I'm certain that you will be fine :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
