First bad food experience :( - Guess it's too early for tuna

Recommended Posts

3 weeks post-op tomorrow. Been on pureed foods since Friday (6 days). I am supposed to be able to have "soft" foods which included tuna, but not sure if I ate too fast, ate too much or didn't chew it well enough but it hurt a lot behind my sternum after about 6 bites and then it did not stay down. Think I'll stick with pureed foods for a while....

Hi,

I too, tried tuna and chicken salad. To this day, they both get stuck and come back up. I can't eat them. Used to be some of my favorite foods but I also can't eat any mayo, lite or fat free.

I had to move onto other things, sadly!

Good luck and hang in there!

Clarissa

@@Daisee68 @Lissapmkn1:

I thought foods didn't get "stuck" with the bypass, like it does with the band. I'm confused.

@PollyWolly~ I didn't think I would be getting "stuck" anymore, either, but I do. The stoma is very tiny but it is not adjustable like it was with the band, so I am learning (sometimes the hard way) what consistency my food needs to be before it reaches my stoma. I have found that something I had for dinner (ie, steak) is not okay leftover the next day, even in a salad. Sometimes something will stick that hadn't previously. I don't know whether it is because I didn't chew enough the second time or if my stoma gets swollen sometimes, but it definitely puts me off trying that food again for a while, lol! :)

I was cleared for meats and quickly found out that chicken can WAIT! My tummy did not like it at all, although I think dark meat might be better than having chicken breast.

@dollybee.

I was just moved to the puree food stage, what do you eat?

Also, am I right in my imagined conclusion as to how you found out chicken disagreed with you?

And, why would a food disagree with you? I don't understand that.

Oh, btw, sorry about your unfortunate experience!

I have been eating Fat Free Refried Beans with a little bit of unflavored Greek yogurt and shredded cheese. That has been my favorite so far. Also, the Ricotta Bake from theworldaccordingtoeggface website. It is wonderful! I had scrambled eggs this morning and they stayed down fine but didn't taste good without salsa I usually put on them (and wasn't sure if it was too early for spicy). I have also had sugar free/fat free pudding cup mixed with unflavored Protein Powder. Still drinking my shakes too to get in enough Protein Still experimenting.

I am 3 weeks out this coming Monday and tuna did not work for me today. I took a couple of bites and it was stuck. I start foaming at the mouth and it eventually came back up. I guess I am back to cottage cheese and retried beans!!

I've been using my Nutribullet to puree my foods, it does a fantastic job. I can't imagine why tuna or chicken would get stuck. Perhaps you're in a different stage?

3 weeks out and have puréed my food as well and food is still getting stuck. I am having an upper GI on Tuesday for a possible structure.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
