Band to bypass approved today

Recommended Posts

You are going to love the bypass! I was revised from band to rny may 2014. I am below my goal weight which is a normal bmi. I wear a size 6 and honestly I am so much healthier than I was with the band. The band worked for me but I could never lose the last 20 pounds and I had a lot of sliming and throwing up. I have had no sliming and haven't thrown up at all! It's so much easier than the band. Wish I had done it first lol good luck!

Did insurance pay for your revision, if I may ask? If you only had the last 20 LBs to lose, did you have problems getting approved? Co-morbidities? I have 65 LBs to lose with major GERD, asthma, arthritis, knee replacement, kidney cancer, pre-diabetic, high lipids, horrible back pain, not to mention vomiting and sliming even with all restriction removed--yet have been told by UHC the revision is not medically necessary but "patient failure." I've hired Lindstrom Obesity Advocacy to handle my appeal, but am curious about your history. You look quite beautiful in your photo!

Thanx!

I was self pay for my band and for my revision. I had my band unfilled and had to gain 40 pounds to qualify to be revised (crazy) but I did it and lost all the 40 plus 30 more. I was revised because my band had eroded. The band was a success for me until then. Best money I ever spent. I look it like this.. Most people don't bat an eye to buy a new car but to invest in your body is crazy.. I find my body the very best thing to invest in. I could drive a junk car and wouldn't care.

Well you look absolutely amazing.

thank you soooo much!!!

I just had band to rny revision on May 7. Mine was covered by insurance, thank goodness! I had struggled with the band since 2008 and originally lost aprox. 60 lbs but then slowly creeped up 40. Now 6 weeks after the bypass I am at the lowest weight that I have been at in 15 years! Dropped under 220 for the first time!

Even though I've had a few complications... Battling a stricture. (Everyone in the endoscopy department of the hospital knows me now). This has been the best decision I could have made! No more running to throw up after eating 3 bites of chicken!

It definitely gets better every day ????

That is just wonderful news. I am so happy for you and excited that you're having success with your revision. Personally, I'm tired of waiting. I refuse to pay for this myself since my insurance policy clearly covers revisions. They're just thinking that I won't pursue it the same as many others -- but they don't know who they're messing with. I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL! I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL! I WILL WIN THIS APPEAL!

Congrats on the approval. I'm being revised from band to bypass on July 13th. I have been struggling with horrible GERD that causes me to sleep upright. Sometimes I wake up choking. After serious persuasion by my surgeon I was convinced to revise. It was a struggle because the scheduler at my surgeons office didn't want to submit for the approval because she was SURE Tricare would say no. After reporting her and starting the process of changing to a different surgeon she submitted and I was approved within two days! I didn't expect it to happen so fast so I'm scrambling to get things in place and people to cover my shifts (I work 12 hour night shifts in a hospital). Whatever it takes to not have to sleep sitting up! Best of luck to you and everyone else having revision surgery!

Congrats on getting approved! I have horrible GERD too and have to sleep upright and chew Tums like crazy... no fun. I hope I get approved for a revision from Tricare if it comes to that. At one time they said they would only cover one WLS but I guess there have been a lot of issues with the band.

I would push the issue. I was told by the scheduler at my surgeon's office there was no way tricare would approve and it was in two days. It is possible. If they don't approve it don't take no for an answer!

absolutely not. I'm healthier with my bypass than I ever was with the band. I was anemic with the band but I am not with the bypass. All my numbers have been amazing. I take sublingual Vitamins. Honestly I just wish I had done the bypass first. I did have to have my band unfilled (so terrifying) to gain 40 pounds to be eligible for the bypass revision. I did it in 5 weeks lol gaining weight is easy!!!!! Lol!

Hello, I'm also going from band to RNY and my surgery is scheduled for August 4th. I still have to do all my pre-op tests but I'm getting closer. I am nervous and at times get scared but then again I know this is what I need to keep me healthy and on track. Good luck to you all on your journey to the new you.

Okay, I was released yesterday after having my band to gastric done on the 19th. I am amazed at how well I'm doing. Which I'm not complaining. The only issue I'm having is the drain tube area. It's sore but tolerable. Wish me luck.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
