June 23rd RNY in Houston..... anyone else?

Recommended Posts

The date is finally approaching. Part of me feels like it has taken forever and part of me feels like it is flying. I have mixed emotions. The liquid diet isnt bad, a 2 week one for me. Mine is scheduled in Houston for 6/23. Its about a 2 hour drive from me so I am contemplating staying the night before because the drive in would be nerve-racking lol. Too long to think. I have done this before with a different surgeon in 2012 I had the sleeve done. It went well for 7 months and then problems. My current surgeon explains that the blood vessels and nerves were not separated correctly and I also have a dilation on an improper staple line on my upper sleeve and terrible acid and bile reflux. Guess I should have been concerned the first time when there was no leak testing or any other testing done after surgery to make sure the surgery was healing properly. Well that is in the past and there is nothing i can do to change it so i must move forward and concentrate on the present and future. I am nervous to have the RNY because my previous surgeon talked me out of it and into the sleeve. Maybe that should have been a red flag. Basically he scared me out of it. Long story short, I am excited to get the reflux of bile and acid corrected and have additional weight loss finally but so scared. My current and amazing surgeon who has walked me through all the testing and questions has been wonderful to subside my fears and correct misinformation I received before. Anyone else have the same date or location?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
