Hi all! I had my sleeve done Wed 6/3. I guess it would be called a revision since I had the band in 2007 had problems from 2012-14 which led to an emergency removal surgery in March 2014 cuz the tubing to the port got freakishly entangled in my small intestine causing dr. to remove 20% of the intestines and I also had abdominal lesions. The dr had to cut me open down the middle to get all this fixed up. Fast forward a yr later I was 20 lbs heavier then before the band, swollen ankles, bad lower back and knee pain, and above all about 4 abdominal hernias! I only was able to lose weight if I practically starved myself! I told my dr I was ready to do the sleeve in Feb. He warned me that because of the other stomach surgeries the scar tissue may b too thick and hard to get thru to my stomach laparoscopically and might have to cut me open again! Well thank God my Dr is the best cuz he spent over 2hrs freeing up scar tissue to get to my stomach! Other doctors may have taken the easier route but he didn't! He took the delicate time and managed! I was nauseous the first 3 days, kept heaving and gaging up. I started feeling better got discharged fri Eve but they had to leave the drain coming out of my stomach to drain the bloods and fluids from reopening the scars inside me. I still have incision pain, can't bend, and obviously can't go much anywhere because of the blood bottle hanging from my side (did I mention it bleeds thru the gauze wen I move to much?) just wondering if anyone has left the hospital with a drain? Also wondering if anyone felt or feels hungry still? Good luck to everyone and answers and stories are greatly appreciated! Thanks!????

I think it's pretty normal to feel hungry still in the early days post-op. For me, it was mostly head hunger. I would see commercials on TV or smell food around me and I wanted to eat it, even though I knew I physically couldn't and it would make me terribly ill if I tried. After those early days, I had some "hunger" feelings that were actually thirst and/or acid.

Also, I had a drain, but it was removed 2 days post-op, so didn't have it as long as yours.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
