I love running -- you have to work up to it. Couch to 5K is a good running training plan. I also work with a personal trainer at my gym. He kicks my butt, but in the four weeks I have worked with him I have gotten twice as strong. He understands my surgery and some limitations that I have (bum knee and I get dizzy if I get up too fast) and works around them. Worth the $ I spend on it!

I hate to admit this given what my issues with food have done to me, but I am a certified personal trainer. I no longer work in the field but I think that it is a great investment in your long term health and fitness to have someone build an exercise plan around your goals. Most trainers will do a session or two to prescribe exercises for you so that you can workout on your own and they can change the workout as needed.

My number one tip. Please never listen to anyone who tells you that exercise can burn fat off of on particular area. It doesn't work like that. No exercise is capable of reducing fat in one specific area. I had a client who swore that sit-ups burnt fat from around his stomach. He did sit-ups everyday. He actually made himself look fatter because he built up the wall of abdominal muscle and that pushed his fat pad out further.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
