Type 1 Juvenile Diabetic getting sleeved.... Soooo Ready!

Recommended Posts

Hi.... My name is Yelitza and I'm a type 1 diabetic. I have been a diabetic for 29 years. I've been on the insulin pump for 7 years. My weight prior to the pump ranged between 170-190 lbs. I'm 5'8". Ever since I've been on the pump my weight has been creeping up on me slowly. My highest weight was 258 on April 2 which was my first office visit with the bariatric surgeon. I'm currently at 242 with the help of trulicity. My endo has been talking to me about my weight gain for the past three years. I was on victoza prior and lost 30 pounds. I stopped taking it because I felt it wasn't having the same affect on me gained the weight that i had lost plus 15 lbs more. Now I have decided to take control of this addiction I have to food. I'm on my second of four visits that's mandated of my insurance for the surgery. I decided to get the sleeve because I feel I need restriction of how much I'm eating. My third visit is set for june 30. Then I'll have my last visit some time in july and then I will be on my way to get scheduled for a date for surgery. Hopefully by the end of August...fingers crossed!!! I'm excited yet scared...excuse me petrified...lol

I have been carrying this extra weight and a burden along with it. I'm depressed, moody, exhausted and miserable. I WANT TO LIVE LIFE AGAIN... A HEALTHY ONE.

My A1C is currently at 11. Before the pump I was at a 14. Then a year with the pump I got down to an 8 but it along with the weight has been creeping up.

Well just gave you my whole life story... Lol.. Just wanna say thank you to all who post. I've been reading these forums for a couple of months now helping me make my decision.

I am too new to give you a long term opinion. I was 'born a loser' on May 6th. I am three weeks on the other side. I haven't had any big issues other than trying to drink enough. Follow what your doctor tells you to the letter. I hope you get thru this and get the diabetes under control. I was headed that way. My A1C got to 5.6 and weight wasn't going away and I decided on my own to pursue the WLS. Wished I had done this a couple of years ago (the sleeve). I didn't want to RNY and I had the option of either lap-band or sleeve. I made the right choice for me!

Litzy: Your story touched my heart, I almost started crying. I too wanted to live again, I would

not go anywhere because I was so disgusted with myself. My highest weight was 317 lbs. I was dying,

literally. My health had become so bad that I was in and out of the hospital constantly with every

problem that comes from morbid obesity. The last time I was in the hospital the Dr. told me I

would not live much longer if I didn't do something about my weight. On December 10, 2014 I had my

sleeve surgery and five months later I am 91 lbs down and off all medication. I walk three miles

everyday and I am constantly on the move doing things I haven't done in years. I feel so wonderful

now and so happy to be alive. I wish you all the best and you will be in my prayers. I can't wait

for you to regain control of your life.

I too am a type-1 pumper getting the sleeve September 1, 2015. I know I will always be on insulin(I have a 100% non-functioning pancreas), but am told that the rest of my med list should be cut at least in half. I can't wait to start actually feeling healthy! I wish you the best of luck and a speedy recovery!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
