Incision site infection

Recommended Posts

I will put in a call to my surgeon this morning. However the chances of me getting in to see him are slim to none as I leave on vacation Friday around lunch and my surgeon is 1.5 hours from home and about 2.5 hours from my work.

That said I had surgery on 2/2/2015. My upper most incision site was a little red and had a little swelling right below the scar last night. This morning it was stll swollen and I got a spurt of thick pus out of next to the scar. The complication is I do still occasionally get cystic acne- yes at age 47. I get them mostly in the groin and along the bra line but it is not unheard of to have a weird stray one show up elsewhere.

I cleaned it well this morning and put triple antibiotic on it with a bandaid.

I had my last pre-op appointment on 4/30/2015 and the surgeon said the incisions looked good.

So what are the realistic chances this is an infection of the incision at 3.5 months out? Or is it just a pimple that is inconventiently placed?

I am thinking of going to my PCP. On the other hand I can keep an eye on it for a day or two and got to an urgent care on my trip if I need to.

One of my other brief thoughts is we always have SMZ-TMPs at the barn for the horses. They are human drugs, the horses just get 10-12 of them at a time. It is a fairly broad spectum antibiotic. I could take that for 7 days. Probably not my brightest idea.

Hells Bells! Go see your PCP Doctor before going on vacation. Take the antibiotics with you so you don't have to worry and can have a great time! Enjoy your trip!!!!

I agree with @@Italian Gal go to your PCP or walk-in before your vacation. I have read about internal stictches as they dissolve trying to poke through and cause a pimple like cyst on the skin. It could be just that, but the last thing you want to do is ignore it or self treat. My mother had developed staph following a bowl resection from diverticulitis. For you peace of mind go get it checked out.

A couple of years ago I self-diagnosed back pain as a pulled muscle from exercise, but Ben-gay was just makeing worse and worse and felt like a fire on my back. So, I caved in and went to my doctor. I am so glad I did. What I had was shingles, which is like grown up chicken pox in the worst way.

My suggestion to you is go see your doctor or a clinic. Then enjoy your trip without worrying and wondering "what if?"

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
