9 days post op and I am HUNGRY!

Recommended Posts

How is this possible? I was under the impression the hunger hormone was removed when they took out 85% of my stomach. I was looking forward to not being hungry...to not being tempted. Whenever the hungries get to me, I've been good and had a SF Popsicle, or SF Jello, or had more Water. I've been good. Next Thursday I graduate to soft foods, from full liquids. Someone please tell me I will be satisfied more and the hungries will subside.

You will be more satisfied with denser foods. Acid will also mimic hunger - I started on Prilosec OTC and it helped alot. Check with your doctor.

My hunger never went away either. My husbands did for a while but it came back about 4 months or so after surgery. I will say that mine is more manageable than it was prior to surgery but definitely still there.

I was sleeved 4/21 and until 2-3 days ago I was hungry all the time. My stomach made horrible growling noise when I wasn't "eating". It was so bad it even woke me up in the night. The last few days it's seems to have stopped. All of the sudden I'm not hungry. I'm still on full liquids for another week and a half.

@@desertgirl_74 My VSG was 4/23. Next week I get soft foods!! I hope my hungries go away!!! I found myself grazing yesterday. I just could not get satisfied. Of course, I grazed on "approved" things, so I was still a good girl....but what if I wasn't?? Then this would all have been for nothing. (my biggest fear)

Don't get me wrong, I'm fighting not putting food in my mouth, especially when I'm cooking dinner for my family. I'm glad the hunger feelings I've had since surgery seem to be subsiding. I felt like a bottomless pit, constantly drinking and always feeling hungry. I can't wait for purées.

I can throw back any liquids. I was sleeved 3/30 and once i hit soft foods, putting something more dense in my stomach, it was much more satisfying.

I am having the same issue as yourself. Also my weight loss has completely stalled. I just keep sticking to the plan and listening to everyone's advice. Looking forward to the scale moving again....

@@Joz31 luckily my weightloss is still going in the right direction. I haven't stalled. But I am hungry all the time. I've been able to eat a whole scrambled egg, with no issues. Friends who had the surgery last December tell me they STILL can't eat a whole scrambled egg. WTH?! Don't get me wrong...I am still eating practically nothing. I don't think my calorie intake is 400 calories all day, and that is with a 160 calorie Protein shake. Maybe I need to increase the Protein. I think it may be time. The book says to start increasing fluids to 64 and Proteins to 60 this week. I think I will try that today. I need to not feel hungry.

I am almost 8 months out and I can definitely eat a whole scrambled egg (plus a couple ounces of refried beans!). Everyone's different though. Best wishes to you!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
