Help - weight loss stalling at wk 3

Recommended Posts

So I'm three weeks post op and in the puree phase of my post-op diet.

I'm sticking with drinking at least seven 8oz glasses of Water or low calorie squash, a diet Protein shake, lunch is usually a low fat Soup or a puree frozen meal (I can manage about 6 table spoons) and then dinner is a pureed meal and then a Protein hot chocolate before bed. Had some wound healing issues so have really worked on my protein intake.

I'm still loosing weight but the rate has dropped massively from 2-3kg a week to now about 1kg a week.

It's frustrating because I'm 1kg away from being able to get back on the wiifit balance board, but I'm doing about 8,000 steps a day in exercise and have started some yoga yesterday as well.

So is it normal to slow the weight loss when you move off liquids?

Your weight loss has been 16.3 kg (36 pounds) thus far. This is probably both pre-op and post op weight loss. Generally when you undergo surgery, you gain around 5 or 10 pounds due to the fluids they pump into you body. At 3 weeks post-op your body is in a major healing mode. I tend to think that it is too soon to be concerned. Just stay with the prescribed meal program.

From reading the boards I've taken that it is very common to have a stall around the 3 week mark. I have been experiencing one as well and have taken comfort in the knowledge that this is common and will pass.

You're doing great! :)

Your doing great. This stall sometimes happens hen you finally get ride of ALL of the fluids from staying in the hospital.

Be careful with the Protein Shake. Some of them have over 300 calories each and if you are having a few of those PLUS food, that might be one of the problems.

Good luck, keep coming back for support :)

Weight loss seems to be back on track and have seriously up-d the exercise regime and am aiming for 10,000 steps a day and that seems to be helping, and my wounds are finally healing!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
