Complicated Surgery

Recommended Posts

Months ago I posted a topic "Anyone Have A Complicated Surgery". A couple of people on this forum couldn't believe I posted such a horrible topic. I guess they don't think shit happens. Feb 23, 2015 I was scheduled for a Gastric Sleeve procedure. My surgeon woke me up from the anesthesia and stated "Sorry I was not able to complete the procedure" due to scar tissue. I went home the next day confused, in pain and determined to get this procedure done. I had many many useless consultations. A surgeon even suggested I go to Mexico and get the Gastric Ballon ????. Researching the Internet I found lovely Dr Reem Shari ha at NY Presbyterian. She performed my Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty procedure. I am so happy that I am a strong woman I do not allow other people comments, actions or decisions determine my destiny.

What is that procedure? Were you originally going in for a band to sleeve revision?

Feb 23, 2015 I unsuccessfully had the Gastric Sleeve. Today I had the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty an outpatient procedure.

Sorry to hear people were so negative about your other post. It's probably a knee jerk reaction to the fears about their own surgery. Really glad you found a surgeon you could work with. Congratulations.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
