My doctor cleared me for full liquids yesterday. This morning I had a shake that I drank quite a bit before surgery. It has 4g of carbs and 3 grams of sugar. About 20 minutes after starting to drink it I felt really sick, had cold sweats, and ended up having diarrhea. When I went back and looked at the shake label. It's not excessivly high in fat, but it's a little higher than the 3 grams of fat per 100 calories rule that my NUT taught me. It is 9 grams of fat for 220 calories. Is that really high enough to cause dumping syndrome? Or does my sleeve just not like that shake?

I didnt think dumping syndrome was particularly a sleeve thing. I think that happens with the bypass. Ive been having some diarrhea. Saw my dr yesterday and he said its common during first few weeks. liquid in, liquid out!

Does it have dairy in it? Could you be having an adverse reaction to the lactose? Maybe it's possible you could be confusing dumping with a lactose sensitivity.

In my nutrition classes they told us it used to be thought to be only a bypass thing, but they are finding that people with the sleeve have it also. Our want just the diarrhea that concerned me, it was the way I felt before that.

It is a lactose free shake, so it couldn't have been a lactose sensitivity.

I know I won't be drinking that shake anymore!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
