Diabetic no longer!

Recommended Posts

So the last eleven months (really much longer) have been an incredible journey.

I had lap band surgery 4/26/14. Has it been easy? Depends. I'd say on the whole, yes. I wouldn't be were I am had I not been banded.

I did it for my health. I remember the day after the surgery telling my family I probably added 15 years to my life.

There have been some fun victories. No seat belt extender on plane! Fit in booth! Lost 11" from waist!

But today it happened. Went to endocrinologist for follow up. I'm no longer diabetic!

Six months before surgery, my A1c was 10.1. Today, was 6.1. (Ok.... While not diabetic, I'm officially re diabetic until it comes down a bit more, but I'll take it!). It was a steady decline between surgery and today

I'm off diabetes medications (I was never on insulin). And, as off today I'm also off blood pressure meds.

I'm psyched.

And, trust me. If I can do it anyone can!

Same here...I was taking oral meds plus daily injections....No Mas!!!

There is a direct correlation between diabetes and body fat...in simple terms fat builds a barrier making it difficult for insulin to work at the cellular level....less fat, more effective insulin becomes

Talking Type 2 here obviously...

wonderful results for you . I too was type 2 diabetic for years. I was on metformin which messed with me all the time, from causing dumping to making me hungry all the time to dropping my bloodsugar to 48 . I had my lapband because I did not want to live a lifetime of metformin or insulin injections which was coming fast. I have been banded 2 years and have not tested diabetic since. My Primary Physician is so happy with my results. diabetes is a deadly dangerous disease. My mother and sister both died from complications of diabetes . I wanted to break that cycle. The lapband plays a part In allowing me to make good decisions with my diet and since I feel better and am lighter I can walk and get more active. Best decision I ever made for myself.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
