I'm sorry, have we met before?

Recommended Posts

Soooo I had my surgery last August. I'm down 70 lbs. (yay me :P).

I was at an open house event of sorts this past weekend. There were about 75 people there. Of those about 15 or so folks I knew pretty well. But there were a handful of those I hadn't seen since last summer. But I've also known them for 4 or 5 years.

There were two in particualrr that I was talking to for a bit (individually) and I could tell by each of their expressions that they couldn't quite place me. Then they each said something to the effect of "have we met before??". I was like, um yah...it's Lisa. You know...we did "x" events together last year. You know my husband, Jim...he's over there...

They were really shocked, lol. I felt a little bad. I guess I don't realize how much I've changed on the outside. I really do still see the 225lb. woman in the mirror. I tell my husband that I thought people would recognize my face. He said I kind of had "hamster cheeks" before  , never mind the weight loss.

Any one else go through this? I mean, really...who are you? LOL. AWKward!

Yeah - i'm finding people don't recognize me too. Or they have the bizarre reaction like I got last month - a woman screams across the parking lot (in front of colleagues) "Oh my gosh - look at you! How much weight have you lost?" "A lot," I replied. She asked yet AGAIN! OMG - so insensitive. I just repeated "A lot." and smiled. Sigh.

My reaction was to feel kind of hurt when people didn't remember me - sometimes it's literally a recognition thing, other times they really don't remember the fat woman since she must have been insignificant, right? Not! Those are the ones that annoy me. If they remember me but just don't recognize me it's easier.

I've been down just over 100 pounds for a few months now (weight loss is MUCH slower now) so i don't so much see the 287 pound person in the mirror any more, but I do forget how that visual affects other people, and how much my internal changes have been on my end. Own it, and enjoy it!

Nope. I have one of those faces. The size may have gone up and down a bit, but I literally have looked exactly the same since I was 3 years old.

it is a weird feeling ... I am a dentist and I see people all the time that I haven't seen since before my surgery ... I am down 109 lbs in 4 months, and, I get that a lot - wow, you look a lot different ..

most of the time I can play it off that my wife won't feed me anymore, but, some still press and I explain the change ... fun times!

Happening all the time to me. I agree don't think I look much different and I guess I still see the same

Person I was. Some have commented to my husband that they though he had a girl friend and were shocked that he would bring her to where we hang out. Others have just walked right pass me and only when they hear my voice recognize it is me.

Best response I've gotten after visiting a relative after a lot of weight loss - he said "Is the rest of you coming tomorrow?" My face has gotten remarkably smaller and I've cut off my long curly locks. It takes a few seconds, but most of the time people remember my face.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
