Dallas - seeking band buddies and support

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I was banded 1/30/15 and so far have lost 20 lbs. I have 55 pounds to go.

I received a lot of judgement from friends about getting the band since my BMI was 39 and I wasn't 300 lbs so I am really looking to find some friends on here for support and encouragement. I'm in dallas and would love to meet new people with the band that need support as well.

hi @@Leoakie86 - I am in the Dallas area. Dr. Marsden was also my doc. Apparently Baylor Plano has a support group but a) Plano is too far to get to from me for non doctor office visits and B) I have heard it is more of a clinical setting. Not that is a bad thing, but I am like you in that I would love to meet others who share this experience. Are you looking just to meet others or are you wanting to be part of an actual support group? I just ask because I am open to both. I have a friend who is a counselor who had gastric bypass several years ago and has a heart for bariatric patients and has been willing to set up a group but so far I haven't found enough people to get a group going.

I have not told very many people at all that I had surgery so it would be nice to meet others who know exactly what this journey is like and what we experience.

Feel free to reach out anytime or PM me!

I would be open to a support group for sure. I just need a support network since none of my friends really get it ya know? I am happy with everything so far... just wish I didn't fart so much. I've been working my ass of though with exercising and eating right.

I also only have 1 cc in my band right now because I had to have an emergency unfill a couple of days after surgery due to swelling. Marsden but in 3.5 cc's in my band to start off which was apparently too much since I had hiatal hernia repair as well.

I think since my friends aren't supportive of it, it almost gives me more fuel to do better. We will see. I am actually on vacation this week since it's been interesting to not over indulge as I usually would.

I do not tell people about my band because it to me is like getting a new undergarment. If I look different eventually they may comment. If they do not notice that is okay too. My prayers were to be healthy and this was the path I was lead to. Thankful I am in my size 6 jeans after that many years this April. Success comes in different ways to different people. Just go for your goal! This little Grandma is able to hide behind the door, under the bed and between the couch and chair during "hide and seek" with the grand kids. To me... a huge accomplishment! My joy comes from the Lord and his grace!

Hi! I'm new to the Dallas area, Garland to be exact. I had my surgery a year ago and am down 25lbs total. Having complications with food getting stuck in esophagus and to tell the truth have not been tracking my food and following the program. Got demotivated in the winter and am looking for a support group or buddy or both to get back on track. Maybe even start up a walking group. I'm limited to what exercises I can do due to lingering physical disabilities from my bout with cancer in 2007. Anybody interested hit me up.

I am also in Garland and really struggling.

My band just had her three year birthday. I had her fixed for the second time in Oct. 2014. She is restricted, but man my willpower sux. I hit that three mark, stepped on the scale 10 pounds less than the birth of my band. Up until the the secound corrective surgery I had done great with my diet. I never drank pop, I limited myself to the amount of sugar I had daily. Then suddenly I felt like a failure at this. I still fill like a failure. To the point that now I am being the failure. The band is finally working correctly and I have given up after three years of trying hard to loose it with NO progress (keep in mind during the three years I have had a total of four months being in the sweet spot due to repeated band failure). I am so grateful for the surgeon to repair the band twice at no cost to me. Now, here I am screwing up and have no willpower left. I want it, but I don't "see" it happening for me at this point.

If you search on here for D/FW support groups, there is a list floating around. There are a lot of support groups in the area all over. Good luck!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
