When is it safe to try alcohol after having the sleeve surgery?

What did your surgeon or NUT recommend? Mine said 1 year. I did have a Bloody Mary at around 4 months. No problems with it. Didn't even get a buzz.

I was told 6 months for hard alcohol but could maybe handle a really small glass of wine here and there. Haven't tried anything yet though.

It's safest to follow YOUR doc's instructions regarding alcohol! That said, I think I tried a bloody mary about 4 months out, (yes I drank against medical advice). It was HUGE, (probably not but felt that way) took me all night to sip down and became "dinner" it filled me so, but wasn't a problem. I haven't found that 1 drink will knock me out or anything, but now that I've lost almost half a person, I def can't manage it like I used to. Moderation in everything now, food and alcohol and its all good.

At my 6 week visit my Dr. Said I could have an occasional glass of wine, but to be mindful of the calories and as long as my stomach can handle it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
