New at this. Got my date one day down on diet.

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is June 20th. My Doctor has me on a diet for two weeks. I get 4 slim fast for 4 days and after 4 days I get to sup one for a salad. I can have all the sugar free Jello and drinks that I want. Today was the first day and it was ruff. I hope I can keep up. :help: I'm very nervous, excited. It has been a struggle to get this far with insurance etc. But I'm doing it, with or without the support of my husband. He is on the boat one minute and off the next.

You can do it! Just remember that once you have the surgery, your diet will be even more restricted for the first month or so. The pre-op diet serves two purposes. 1) it helps to reduce the amount of fat around your liver (which has to be pulled back so that they Dr. can get the band around the stomach) and 2) it's almost like "conditioning" the brain. Hang in there. . .it gets better!!!

it's definitely not a cop out. I too had great success with weight watchers. . .but I always ended up cheating, or quiting, and always put the weight back on, plus some! This is a tool that will help you not cheat, and keep the weight off!

Cope out? Do you walk everywhere or cope out and drive....do you sew all your outfits or cope out and wear store bought clothes? Do you bake and can and hunt for your food or cope out and go to the local deli? My point is that having the surgery is not "an easy way out", it is a lifestyle change. It is taking charge of your health! It is finally choosing to do something that will allow you a healthier life.

Good luck with your search for answers.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
