@@mykdzmom, thank you for your support. It is definitely nerve racking.

@@bncbabe2015, definitely check with the doctor before starting this process. Also I suggest to call your insurance and verify with them, what weight they base their decision on.

@wilflowergirl, if you have sleep apnea and a BMI of 40, you should qualify for surgery. It is crazy how many different rules each insurance company has...each plan is different and each company is different. There should be a default on the minimum requirements for every company and everyone should follow the same.

Good luck to everyone!!!

@wildflowergirl I can't imagine how frustrated you have been. It will happen, but looks like it will take a little longer. Keep your chin up.

@@ccol625 Honestly I'm not sure which they used but I couldn't lose any weight on my 3 month supervised diet or else I had a chance of being denied since I was right at a BMI of 40

Found out that Aetna changed the Policy they no longer say "two years" As long as doctor records show consistent on going obesity and the policy now says that during the 6 month supervised you can not have a net gain of weight- so you have to weigh the same or less at the last appointment as the first appointment. I am so excited I have been at a 40 BMI since November have had sleep apnea since January and have been over 35 BMI for over five years(probably longer) So I just started my 6 months this month (April) and if all goes well I'll get surgery the end of the year!!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
