Pregnancy Question?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a question! I was wondering if you could get pregnant with the lapband? I have not been banded yet but would like to get in done this year... However I would like more children if the future... I have read that you can get pregnant with the band but was wondering if anybody has hands on experience with it. Thanks you, Juls

I haven't got banded yet, but asked my surgeon this same question. He said you shouldn't plan on getting pregnant for 2 years after you're banded. After that it is no problem, but most of the time they do a complete unfill to make sure the fetus gets the nutrients it needs. :)

Welcome! Use the Search feature on the blue toolbar above this thread and then click on Advanced Search. The on the left type pregnant or pregnancy or baby or any term that you can think of that would relate to pregnancy (not all at once, of course). Then click on the box below it and select thread titles only. You will find MANY MANY MANY threads here with fantastic information about people's experiences with pregnancy and the band. I do hope this helps!

My surgeon also says no pregnancy for two years after WLS. He has you sign a paper stating that you understand their reccommendations not to get pregnant. I'm sure it's to cover them in case you have a slip, etc. while pregnant.

I also plan to have more children... My surgeon says it is perfectly fine to have more children with the band... all they'll do is unfill it so you can get the nutrients you require. They suggest very highly that you wait until you are about 18-24 months out before getting pregnant.

I was banded April 05 pregnant Oct 05 had lost 60 lbs by Oct. My dr said it was fine they just "like" for you to wait at least a year. The weight loss helped me to get pregant. I just had my band unfilled during the pregnancy and filled again 6 weeks after the baby

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
