Odd "burning" senstation off and on...

Recommended Posts

I have been having an odd mild burning sensation off and on in my stomach area. The paranoid part of my mind has been whispering erosion.

I have googled but can't find a list of erosion symptoms, can anyone provide one?

Hi Derick,

I can't supply you with a list of the symptoms of erosion, but I can tell you my experience. Not sure when you were banded, but - I'm 3 weeks out - when I got home from the hospital I had the burning, it was below my incisions, sometimes also at the port incision. Had the same worries. When I called the Doctor, the PA called me back and assured me that this was quite common and not to be concerned. And indeed, it slowly subsided, by last week it was gone and my 2 week visit went well. I still have some tenderness amd swelling in that area, but they explained to me that the port is sewn to muscle and it takes a bit longer to heal. This is what causes the burn, it also radiates downward. I wouldn't be too concerned unless it gets really intolerable. But of course be on the safe side and call your surgeon.

Best of luck,

SG

I have been getting awful burning in the port area. I was banded 3 weeks ago also, it started one week after surgery and its excrutiating!!!(sp). It feels like with certain movements my port rips away from the muscle. It brings tears to my eyes and I have to stop whatever I am doing. I go to the doc on Thursday. I am not sure if this is what you are feeling but they called it positional pain. I just hope it does not have to be removed but I cannot live like this! Good Luck, I hope what you /I are feeling is just part of the normal healing process.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
