Bowel movement

Hi All, I am 8 days post-op & still haven't emptied bowels. I have taken Benefibre once since I started pureed foods on Tues but just felt bloated & uncomfortable. Now I feel as though my stomach has hardened & bloated even more. I am having approx. 1.1L fluid a day which includes 300mls protein shake. Dr told me to wait for the 'urge' but thats not happening!!

My question I guess is, should this be taking this long....Help please!!

But ask your doctor first please

I was good and regular. I was sleeved on a Thursday, came home Saturday and had a BM on Monday. However my surgeon is very conservative. I was started on daily stool softners in the hospital and prescribed a 30 day run post-op.

It is not uncommon for people to be constipated post-op. You should be taking the benefiber daily. Some have had to use other things; benefiber, ducolax, prune juice, fresh prunes, exlax, coffee, colace and smooth move tea to name just a few. Also make sure you are getting in as much of your fluids as possible. Try to work up to 2L( at least half should be water). It will take time, but Water helps you "go" so getting those fluids up is a good thing. So It may get to the point where you will need to use a suppository or enema.

Thanks everyone...have been to the Dr who prescribed a suppository....all better now ????

Oh man I went 2 weeks and it was dizzying. I almost passed out when I finally had a BM. Do the tea, anything. Just get to stay regular!
