michellyoh 0 Posted June 3, 2007 I was banded on the 31st. I have been doing fine, but I don't think I am getting in enough liquids. This morning when I woke up, I could tell I was hungry, so I got some sugar free Jello. After the 4th small bite, I felt like I was going to throw up. I didn't throw up, however I knew I wasn't going to be eating anymore of that jello. I poured out my crystal lite, in exchange for Water, and pulled out a sugar free popsicle. That seems to be going down just fine. I have eaten jello since I've been home, and have not experienced that before?!? What could that be from? Second question is about the pre-op diet. I am on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks post op. How am I supposed to get my Protein?
keiko 1 Posted June 3, 2007 Michelle, As my doctor's info said, the first concern it to be healing. Sip plenty of Water throughout the day. I was on Boost and Ensure high Protein drinks after the 4th day, along with full Clear Liquids. You probably won't be able to get anywhere near the amount of Protein in that you hope to, but you need to heal and not put stress on your band. Powdered protein mix can be added if you tolerate it. I personally couldn't stand the taste of any of it, so I stuck to Water, Iso-Pure, Ensure and Boost, for the most part. After awhile you will be able to tolerate more and can try increasing your protein intake. My doc's sample menu for the clear liquid diet was 38-42 grams protein. Full liquid was 42-48 grams of protein. I probably didn't get all that in, but I just concentrated on drinking. Good luck!
eyespy 1 Posted June 3, 2007 (I don't know how to insert the quotes like every body else, so I put it in red.) Second question is about the pre-op diet. I am on a clear liquid diet for 2 weeks post op. How am I supposed to get my Protein? I saw this on another thread and thought it be helpful to you. Then the best discovery was this bouillon stuff my daughter found called BETTER THAN BOUILLON. It has 42 grams of Protein per serving (vs. the 5 in those cubes). I've been adding a spoon of the BTB to other foods to get the extra protein (and flavor).
tanderson 3 Posted June 3, 2007 Just a comment...if you are not able to get your liquids in, DO NOT increase your total Protein with supplements as this is EXTREMELY hard on your kidneys. Remember that in the beginning, it is more important to HEAL...it's not a biggie if you don't get all of your protein in right at first.
