Thunder thighs.

Recommended Posts

Good thread! Have the same build and thighs/hips/butt seem to be stubborn in past attempts at weight loss. This time around I am not going to be so hard on myself about it because the "Kim K" look is "in" lol. I do know what you mean about the deposits. I'm very self conscious about my legs and dread showing them. Have not worn shorts since middle school.

Supposedly some of this can be evened out with skin brushing (check Google- I think that's what it's called). Probably gimmicky but worth a shot. I believe surgery would probably be the only way to target a certain area.

Building muscle under can help w shape. I like doing the bike too. Stairclimber is also good- def works the butt too.

Comment on plantar fascitis: I had painful heel spur surgery in 1993 which took three monthsand a surgical boot to recover, but resolved that issue in my left foot.

In 1997, I got a spur and fascitis in my right foot. New town, new podiatrist. This guy wanted to disconnect the tendons in my foot! Geeze....so I went to an orthopedist. He gave me a cortisone shot (so not pleasant) an $8 jelly heel for my shoe, and told me to wear solid shoes that lift my heel higher than my toes, enough to take my weight off my heel. In less than a week, the problem was solved. I still wear "sensible" shoes, but my feet don't hurt either.

If ever my mum is feeling down, she says my legs cheer her up cause they are such a funny shape! Lol. My mum has skinny sparrow legs, but I've always had huge legs. I even had a random little girl walk over to me one day and say "wow, your legs are biiiiiig!"

I think I'll always have chunky legs, but if some comes off I'll be happy :-)

That made me chuckle. It reminded me that when I was really little, like 4 or 5, my great grandmother would always comment on my big legs, calling them "mill posts" or something. She was very southern, and so I didn't understand a lot of their expressions, but even now, I don't know what that is, and neither does my mom, but I knew it meant big, lol. Point is, I've always had huge legs, and that never changed, no matter what I weigh. I don't even plastic surgery can totally fix them.

Hi! :)

I carry a lot of my weight in my bum & thighs, too!

I've noticed that as the weight is coming off, the cellulite is increasing and feels much more noticeable now, versus when I was 50 lbs heavier.

I've joined a gym because I know exercise is very important to help tone & build muscle, but has anyone ever tried firming creams or anti-cellulite lotions???

Thanks!

I am pre-op and have always had the thunder thighs which I am pretty sure wont go away just cuz I will lose weight with the gastric sleeve surgery in time. SO in order to help them along I have bought a cellulite massage brush about $6 on Amazon. Its a palm sized oval thing with 1/4" knobs sticking out of a soft base that you rub the cellulite areas with using oil or soap in the shower. They say in the reviews that within a few weeks you see results. I've already tried it with oils and essential oils (grapefruit, carrot seed, cypress, juniper, rosemary ) to help in the diuretic properties etc. But you can use skin lotion too. My skin on the outside is fantastically soft now - I do this after showering each day. Always move towards the heart. So far nothing but soft skin but I'll keep you posted. I'm trying to avoid liposuction or plastic surgery if at all possible! I'll try anything. P.S. cellulite creams may help too but I think the massage is the real cellulite buster - breaking up the fat deposits instead of just applying something to the skin.WE'll see! Good luck!

My main health concern is having MS. I have very limited mobility with my legs so that exercising is almost impossible. Hopefully I'll be able to find a sweimming/exercise program that will help with those nasty thigh issues

I have MS. I did aquatic physical therapy. Helped a lot with balance.

I am bottom heavy, too. My mom is bottom heavy with short legs and long torso. She has always blamed it on our German ancestors. When I have lost weight before I tended to lose from the top down. Swimming has always been one of my favorite exercises and it seems to help with my bottom half.

While I am in the early stages of this process, I find it refreshing to know that I am not alone in my shape. I have thick, wide thighs with plenty of dimples. My calves are also quite large, and my butt...well it's there. Before kids #3 and #4 I did have some definition where my mid section once was. I too was one of those ladies who had a gap in their waistband because they had to size up to accommodate the large thighs. These days I've got the bulging belly and wide/thick thighs and calves. I've come to realize that they will always be there, but if anyone learns of ways that actually help to tone the beasts I'm happy to listen.

Story of my life! I have even gone so far as to shop for specialty jeans online that are supposed to accommodate people with large butts/thighs and smaller waists and they STILL had that stupid gap in the back. Ugh!

Same here, down 75 pounds and only 2 pants sizes. I'm two sizes smaller than I'm wearing in the waist area but anything smaller is too tight in the legs. I have to wear a belt with everything! I've been trying to get in more walking. Was told lunges is good for the thigh area but I have bad knees and that would kill them.

I'd like to have an answer to that question too! I've lost 52 and 1/2 pounds in the 5 months since surgery and the butt and hips are still holding on for dear life

Squats and lunges ( front, rear, side, and angled at 45 degrees) also you could lay on your side and do leg lifts along with the cardio. Remember muscle mass burns fat very efficiently!

I'm the opposite. I have gone down 6 pants sizes but my belly and arms are almost the same as it was when I started. I'm still wearing the same tops as I was before. My legs look like sticks but my arms look like your "millposts". Plus they're long - I look like a gorilla - all my weight on top (including moon face) and incongruous little pixie legs.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
