I'm new to this site - been lurking a bit and reading as much as I can about what I can expect both before and after surgery. I'm feeling anxious but excited. It felt like this day would never come. After making the decision to go ahead with Gastric Bypass back in August, I learned I needed to do 3 months of medically supervised weight loss. Those months flew by and, in hindsight, I think they will make me more successful after surgery - although I certainly didn't think so at the time. I went from my highest weight ever of 296 down to 258 during my MSWL. I'm really hoping for no complications tomorrow. I'm having a hernia repair at the same time. Looking forward to not having acid reflux or heartburn anymore:) I hope to be able to post again soon with a really great surgery story.

The best of luck tomorrow. I am exactly 2 weeks post op. The number one advise I can offer you is to get up and walk as soon as you are able to do so. It will help tremendously with gas pain, cause for surgery you know they fill your belly with gas. So with that being said, Good Luck, I wish you a speedy recovery :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
