Almost 4 years out

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am new to the forum. I am almost 4 years out, surgery was May 25, 2011.

I was 311 lbs before the surgery and now down to 177 lbs,

My lowest was 160 lbs. which I felt more comfortable at, but I would like to take off at least the 17 lbs or at least 10 lbs.

I am still conscious of what I eat, but no matter what I seem to do, my weight is staying put.

Can anyone advise me on what to do?

Are you exercising regularly? If not, that might help with those last 17lbs. I of course am still far from my goal but I am guessing those last 20 will give me trouble when I get to that point. I feel like I lose ok now but of course it has slowed way down from the beginning 2 months. I have to work very hard at it, some weeks I lose a pound others 3, usually no more than that.

Hi Cheryl,

I am just over 18 months out - I had RNY surgery 6/25/2013. I started at 331 and now weigh 123 - I am 5'2". I have been working on maintenance (weight between 120 - 125) since June, 2014. Exercise and tracking what I eat are the two keys I have found to maintenance.

I use MyFitnessPal to track what I eat. If you are not using a tracking App, I strongly encourage you to start. It will make all the difference. MFP is a free App and I strongly believe it is the best weight loss tool I have every found.

Exercise is also key. I am learning that cardio is not enough. Weight work is equally, if not more, important. My goal this year is to begin working with a trainer to learn more about working with weights. I have learned that the more muscle we have on our body, the more calories we will burn naturally, allowing us to eat more without gaining weight - or helping you lose weight without increasing the time you need to workout.

Keep us posted on how you are doing. It really is still a struggle for me - I am finding my way though and you will too!

Carol

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
